Hardee Fresh Donates Produce Through USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program
Wauchula, FL – Hardee Fresh is pleased to announce the continuation of its efforts to alleviate hunger, nutritional deficiencies, and other forms of food insecurity among families in Central Florida. Earlier this year the Company committed to assisting more than 10,000 such families facing hunger in Central Florida.
The Company is now pleased to announce that it will augment these efforts through participation in the USDA Family Food Box program. Under this program, Hardee Fresh will make donations of fresh, leafy green vegetables to charitable organizations running food pantries and food banks in Central Florida. We expect that Hardee Fresh’s participation in this program will allow the Company to double its 2020 outreach to Central Florida families in need.
About USDA Farmers to Families Food Box
As part of the Coronavirus Farm Assistance Program Secretary Perdue announced on April 17 that the USDA is exercising authority under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to purchase and distribute up to $3 billion of agricultural products to those in need. USDA will partner with regional and local distributors, whose workforce has been significantly impacted by the closure of many restaurants, hotels, and other food service entities, to purchase fresh produce, dairy, and meat. USDA awards contracts for the purchase of the agricultural products, the assembly of commodity boxes and delivery to identified non-profit organizations that can receive, store and distribute food items. The distributors and wholesalers will then provide a pre-approved box of fresh produce, dairy, and meat products to food banks, community and faith-based organizations, and other non-profits serving Americans in need.
